We have an exciting full-time opportunity in our NSW Action Centre for an experienced Government Relations Advisor.

The primary role of the Government Relations Team is to develop and implement a comprehensive government relations program to promote Amnesty International and its campaigns as well as promoting a culture of human rights within the parliamentary and departmental systems.

Reporting to the Government Relations Manager you will have an opportunity to assist in the development and strengthening of institutional government relations, managing and coordinating AIA’s government relations communications and providing support to the National President, Director and other key AIA representatives.

You will have:

* Extensive experience in a similar role (e.g. ministerial adviser, parliamentary adviser, lobbyist);
* Demonstrated ability to advocate to all sides of politics;
* Highly developed oral and written communication skills, including high competence in editing and writing in Plain English;
* Excellent presentation skills;
* Highly developed analytical skills, political judgment and strategic thinking;
* Proven ability to work with limited supervision and manage own workload day to day while handling competing priorities and deadlines;
* Demonstrated understanding and appreciation of Australian parliamentary process;
* Experience training and /or promoting consistent style/structure to internal clients in the preparation of written communications;
* Strong work ethic: energy, enthusiasm and flexibility; and
* The ability to work effectively as a part of a dedicated team.
