Job posting: Project Officer - Embedding Indigenous Knowledge (UQ)

The School of English, Media Studies and Art History (EMSAH) is a vibrant interdisciplinary academic community and offers considerable scope to cultivate approaches to research, teaching and learning informed by the emerging discipline of Indigenous Knowledge. We have recently commenced a pilot project to embed Indigenous Knowledge across the School’s research and teaching activities ahead of a major outreach project to Indigenous stakeholders.

The Role: The successful applicant will have an opportunity to enhance the quality of teaching and research on the products of Indigenous cultural industries by developing awareness of the contribution of Indigenous critical perspectives to broader understandings of culture both in Australia and internationally. The position also provides an opportunity to contribute to policy and practice within the University of Queensland more broadly as the recommendations of this pilot project will determine the work of other schools and Faculties.

The project officer’s role has two interconnected parts. The first is to report, with reference to national and international benchmarks, on current efforts to embed Indigenous Knowledge within the School and to identify opportunities for further development on current and future initiatives. The second part is to prepare an application for sustainable community outreach to Indigenous stakeholders to be funded through the Higher Education Equity Support Program to commence 2010-12.

The Person: Applicants should possess relevant tertiary level qualifications relevant to the field of Indigenous Knowledge. You should also have demonstrated research skills and project management skills, well developed organisational and planning ability, excellent written and oral communication skills and the capability to prioritise, work under pressure and meet deadlines. The successful applicant should also have a strong commitment to helping staff at the University of Queensland achieve best practice in response to the Education Principles on Indigenous Australian Matters (http://www.uq.edu.au/hupp/?page=63701&pid=24963).
