CHASS hiring research and policy position (Canberra based)
The Council for Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences is seeking an
energetic person to conduct research, manage outsourced research, and draft
papers and submissions. This is an exciting opportunity, a chance to work in a
small-team environment for an organisation making a difference in policy
circles.
CHASS is an advocacy body representing the
interests of people working in research, education and practice in the
humanities, arts and social sciences. Many of our Members are from the tertiary
education sector.
The successful
applicant will have significant research skills, an interest in policy and
politics, and the ability to write and think clearly. The position will suit
younger applicants keen to make an impact in a challenging environment, or
mature applicants with experience of the processes of government and
policy-making.
Salary will be in the
range $65-75,000 plus super. Flexible work arrangements, including a part-time
appointment, are negotiable. The position is based in Canberra and some travel
will be necessary.
Essential skills
include the ability to:
• communicate clearly both orally and in writing
• apply knowledge and understanding of the humanities, arts and social sciences
and the tertiary education sector
• conduct and commission research into policy issues
• draft papers and submissions
• take initiatives, generate ideas, operate with some independence
• work under pressure, meet tight deadlines
• operate normal office programs: Word, Excel, email etc
• work with an active Board and advisory committees
It would be an
advantage to have:
• experience in policy-making processes of government
