$30,000 scholarship for indigenous student
A young indigenous student has been officially presented with a $30,000 scholarship provided by the NSW Government to help create exciting education and career opportunities in the sport and recreation industry.
Sport and Recreation minister Kevin Greene met with scholarship winner Todd Mackay at the Campbelltown campus of the University of Western Sydney late last week to congratulate him.
“Todd Mackay, a first year undergraduate studying a Bachelor of Health Science here at UWS, will receive $10,000 a year for up to three years of study,” Mr Greene said.
“It’s great to see this award going to a local university. Though he is originally from Cowra, Todd has lived in Blacktown for most of his 19 years and attended Mitchell High School.
“He was selected for his academic achievement and the excellent way he demonstrated how the scholarship will help with his career goals.
“He now has the chance to gain the knowledge and skills needed for a successful career in the sport and recreation industry, and I wish him all the best.”
“UWS are to be commended for the way they are encouraging Todd to take an active role in the sport and recreation industry in the future.
“With the support he will gain from the experienced academics at here at university, Todd can access opportunities to build skills, establish careers and provide leadership in his community.”
