New 2006 CAPA Executive announced
Postgraduate education and representation is at a crossroads with campus life to face massive upheavals thanks to Family First Senator, Steve Fielding's deal with the Howard government. This marks the first year in which many student services will dramatically suffer on campuses across the country, and sets the tone for the year ahead as the Council of Australian Postgraduate Associations 2006 Office Bearers commence their term serving the needs and interests of the nation's 257,000 postgraduate students.
Incoming CAPA President Jason Hart stated that "the passage of the Higher Education Support Amendment (Abolition of Up-Front Compulsory Student Union Fees) Bill in December 2005, will see demand for postgraduate representation, advocacy and welfare, particularly among students from regional and international backgrounds, continue to grow.'
The Council of Australian Postgraduate Associations is committed to ensuring that the educational needs and interests of postgraduate students are advanced and represented at the national and state levels to ensure equity, access and quality in teaching and research outcomes for all students.
