Postgrads refuse ACCC's Draft JCU Decision

CAPA rejects the draft decision by the ACCC that the status quo can be sustained should the services provided to students no longer remain under their control at James Cook University.

"The majority of services provided by student associations to their constituents are substantially subsidised under current arrangements" said JCU President Stephen Horton.

"The ACCC's preliminary findings fail to recognise the crucial role of student representation on University decision making bodies ensuring fairness and equity for students" he continued.

CAPA has grave reservations about the national implications this draft decision will have on the long-term viability of student associations.

"CAPA considers this an extremely important matter and will be addressing the preliminary findings of this decision immediately.

"CAPA will be making a submission of appeal against this draft ruling and encourages all other postgraduate associations to do the same". Said the CAPA President Ms Leisa Ridges.
