Group of Eight Universities (Go8)

Membership of the group consists of the vice-chancellors (presidents) of: The Australian National University, Monash University, The University of Adelaide, The University of Melbourne, The University of New South Wales, The University of Queensland, The University of Sydney and The University of Western Australia.
The Group of EIght works to ensure a consistent and sustainable policy environment which maximizes the wide-ranging economic, social and cultural benefits to the Australian community of higher education and which ensures Australian universities are recognised as among the best in the world.
The Group of Eight aims to:
enhance the contribution of Australia's universities to the nation's social, economic, cultural and environmental well-being and prosperity;
extend the contribution of Australia's universities to the generation and preservation of the world's stock of knowledge;
strengthen Australia's capacity to engage in and benefit from global developments; and
expand opportunities for Australian students, regardless of background, to participate in world class higher education.
The group has been operating as an informal network of vice-chancellors since 1994. It was formally incorporated in September 1999.
