The Manager, Higher Degree Research Students will manage the Higher Degree Research courses at USQ by coordinating research scholarships, and managing training programs for academic supervisors and HDR students relating to research scholarships at USQ. The appointee will also provide a high level of management advice to the Postgraduate Support Officer as well as providing management reports of HDR student applications, enrolments, confirmations and graduations to the Director, Office of Research and Higher Degrees.

The Federal Government’s proposal to block internet sites with a mandatory filter has drawn overwhelming opposition from voices across politics and civil society. So what are the real questions for policy-makers?

These forums explore the ethical, social and political questions raised by government regulation of the internet. With the growing intersection between technology, politics and media, how do existing and proposed classification regimes measure up?

An exciting secondment opportunity (part time) is available for a period of 12 months for someone who would enjoy playing a key role in assisting the University, monitor its performance in staff and student equity and in contributing to a small and dynamic team engaged in cultural change within the University.

A Student Liaison Officer able to deliver a high level of customer service to the School’s postgraduate students is required to work within a team environment.

The Role: This position is located at the St Lucia campus and the successful applicant will join the Business School’s student liaison team in providing support and advice to staff and postgraduate students. In consultation with the School’s Student Administration Manager, this position administers the University’s and School’s policies and procedures related to postgraduate coursework students.

This includes information about access to resources (space, infrastructure, equipment), finances and development initiatives. Research training in Australia – public hearing in Townsville

The House of Representatives Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Innovation will conduct its sixth interstate public hearing for its research training inquiry in Townsville on Tuesday, 19 August.

“This inquiry focuses on the adequacy and effectiveness of current research training schemes, the factors that determine whether new graduates pursue a career in research, and the opportunities for career advancement for research graduates and staff,” said Committee Chair Maria Vamvakinou.

Applications are now open for the 2009 Fulbright Queensland Scholarship. Valued at up to $40,000 this scholarship supports a talented Queensland based postgraduate or postdoctoral scholar to undertake study or research in the United States for three to twelve months.

The scholarship may be started anytime between 1 July 2009 and 30 June 2010.

The Queensland Premier's Literary Awards are currently open for entries.
There is $225,000 in prize money to be won from 14 categories from television, drama and film scripts, fiction, non-fiction and history books to poetry and short story collections, science writing and children's books.

The winner of the science category will be awarded $15,000.
