University of Melbourne Staff to Protest - Monday September 7th

[From the NTEU] Staff at the University of Melbourne will strike Monday 7th September, to protest job cuts and announcements of major restructures at faculties.

The University has announced it will continue with its job cuts program.

On top of this the University is preparing a massive restructure under the heading of Responsible Division Management; further job losses!

We are concerned for the effect these cuts will have on the reputation of the University and the quality of education, services and research.

Staff are demanding University Council act to stop these job cuts!

Staff will be holding a major protest to send their message to the Governing body of the University.

Meet MONDAY 7th September 2009 at 3.30pm

PROTEST AT UNIVERSITY COUNCIL,

STAFF WILL BE ASSEMBLED AT SOUTH LAWN

University of Melbourne Parkville campus

“We are getting information from staff all over the University that substantial job losses are being imposed.  Staff are truly concerned for their jobs” said Ted Clark, President of the NTEU, University of Melbourne Branch

“Staff are in the dark right now as to how far these job cuts will go”

“Each faculty and school has been told to centralise, decentralise and balance their budgets.  This is leading to incredible proposals such as the cut of 40% of academic staff in the School of Land & Environment”

“The protest will be loud and demanding that University Council steps in and stops these cuts”
