AQF Must Support a Baseline for Quality

It is vital that the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) is able to effectively sustain the national and international reputation of Australian degrees.  As the current cycle of consultation on the revised AQF framework draws to a conclusion, CAPA has released a brief statement in support of the quality of Australian postgraduate degrees.

The following is in response to the invitation for submissions to the Senate Inquiry into the Social Security and Other Legislations Amendment (Income Support for Students) Bill 2009, which has also adopted terms of reference from the Senate Inquiry into Rural and Regional access to Secondary and Tertiary Education Opportunities.

The Senate Rural and Regional Affairs and Transport References Committee is inquiring into the Social Security and Other Legislation Amendment (Income Support for Students) Bill 2009. The bill proposes to make wide-ranging changes to income support arrangements for students in response to certain recommendations of the Bradley Review of Australian Higher Education.

The federal budget will need to reduce student poverty if Australia is to build the workforce it needs to prosper after the global financial crisis, student groups say.
National Union of Students president David Barrow said that, after many years of neglect, the top priority for the government in higher education should be reforming student income support.
