Review of Higher Education Access and Outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People

Within Australia, there are approximately 1,500 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander identifying students, constituting less than 0.5% of total postgraduate enrolment. This lies substantially below the 2.2% of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander representation within the wider community. These students are broadly distributed across Australia’s 39 Universities and Batchelor Institute for Indigenous Tertiary Education.

Government Fails Postgraduate Coursework Students

With the announcement that the Australian Government is increasing funding for rural and regional students in Youth Allowance came another cut to postgraduate students – two more years to wait for their courses to be accessible for government support.

AQF Must Support a Baseline for Quality

 

It is vital that the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) is able to effectively sustain the national and international reputation of Australian degrees.  As the current cycle of consultation on the revised AQF framework draws to a conclusion, CAPA has released a brief statement in support of the quality of Australian postgraduate degrees.

The following is in response to the invitation for submissions to the Senate Inquiry into the Social Security and Other Legislations Amendment (Income Support for Students) Bill 2009, which has also adopted terms of reference from the Senate Inquiry into Rural and Regional access to Secondary and Tertiary Education Opportunities. 

Senate Inquiry into the Social Security and Other Legislations Amendment (Income Support for Students) Bill 2009

The Senate Rural and Regional Affairs and Transport References Committee is inquiring into the Social Security and Other Legislation Amendment (Income Support for Students) Bill 2009. The bill proposes to make wide-ranging changes to income support arrangements for students in response to certain recommendations of the Bradley Review of Australian Higher Education.
