Review of the National Governance Protocols (Joint Committee on Higher Education)
The National Governance Protocols were implemented under the Federal Government’s reforms in higher education and became effective in June 2004. The Protocols were to improve governance practices at universities by providing standards to ensure that governing bodies were effectively overseeing the operations of universities.

Commercial accountability framework to be reviewed and strengthened
CAPA salutes the twenty-seventh recommendation of the Senate Committee report, Universities in Crisis, that a review be conducted into the commercial accountability arrangements of universities.
"The committee's call for a comprehensive review is most welcome, as it will protect universities themselves, their students and staff, and the public that funds universities in good faith that public money will be spent responsibly on public education," said President John Byron today.

CAPA welcomes the tenth recommendation of the Senate Committee report, Universities in Crisis, that the current balance between state and federal responsibilities for universities should be reviewed.
"A significant disjunction between the locus of statutory authority over universities and the source of their public funding has grown over the past few decades," said CAPA President John Byron today.
