Attachment: Review of the ATO Advice on Scholarships
The provision of scholarships to postgraduate students is one of CAPA’s ongoing concerns as there is often confusion in regards to the taxation status of scholarships and the working relationships that sometimes exist between scholarship provider and scholarship holder. Tools such as “is my scholarship taxable” are essential for students however it is not something that is widely known about by scholarship holders. A review of the advice provided to ensure simplicity, clarity and accessibility of information is a useful initiative.
